Motability Scheme

Here at elms Direct, it's our aim to provide each and every motorist that visits our Centres with the opportunity to leave the showroom with the car of their dreams. Whether it's a compact, fun, and vibrant MINI, or a high-quality, sophisticated BMW, the models available from our Retailers in Bedford, Cambridge and Stansted are available for all motorists, including those eligible for the government-funded Motability Scheme.

What is Motability?

More than 600,000 people are currently taking advantage of the Motability Scheme which, since its establishment in 1978, has helped those with a disability enjoy access to the latest and best new vehicles from leading manufacturers. Those in receipt of selected government grants are able to put the money they receive towards the running of a quality vehicle, with adaptations and supplementary costs included as part of the scheme.

What are the benefits of the scheme?

  • Receive a brand-new MINI or BMW car every three years
  • Selected vehicle adaptations at no additional cost
  • Annual road tax
  • Insurance, servicing, maintenance, and breakdown assistance included in the cost
  • 60,000 miles allowance over three years
  • Two named drivers

Who is eligible for Motability?

The Motability Scheme has been devised to provide access to the latest vehicles for those in receipt of government subsidies, who may otherwise be incapable of taking advantage of the newest models available. There is no upper age limit for the Motability Scheme; as long as you're in receipt of the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment, the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, or the Armed Forces Independence Payment, you may be eligible for the Motability Scheme.

It's essential that you have 12 months' award length remaining on your allowance to qualify. Parents or guardians of children aged three years and above who receive an applicable benefit can apply on their behalf; up to two people can be named as drivers on the scheme, meaning that those most in need of quality transport will be able to benefit
